Art on Snow Gastein

This winter the Gasteinertal near Salzburg is going to be home to many artists. Besides ice sculptors and photographers from the Alpine region, also international artists will create and show their works surrounded by an impressive mountain scenery.

Skiers and snowboarders can even enjoy art while descending the slopes. The festival, where illuminated photographs and cool sculptures can be admired, takes place from 31st January to 6th February 2015 throughout Gasteinertal.

The probably best combination of art and winter are sculptures out of ice and snow. From chunky snow and ice blocks, the artists will carve and mill out several ice sculptures with artisanal and handicraft skills at various locations throughout the whole valley. This filigree process can be witnessed already one day before the start of the festival. The skiers can stop by and watch the artists working with their saws, files and machetes directly in the ski resort

Another highlight of this years’ Art on Snow will be the exhibition “Tribute to the Snowboard Photography Yearbook” with 20 artworks by 16 of the 76 contributing world-famous snowboard photographers. Also with this exhibition the organizers remain faithful to their aspiration to present snowboard art close to its origin – the snow. The artworks will be exhibited at different outdoor locations throughout Bad Gastein.
