Resort info: The ski domain of La Grave – La Meije is unique. There is only one cable car taking skiers and snowboarders to 3200m. There is one small poma lift on the glacier, to 3600m. Besides for one small piste on the glacier the vast domain is all on your own risk. There is no avalanche dynamiting, no marked trails, just a few signs. It is wild terrain and around 2000m of pure mountain experience. There are four ski patrolers, employed by the mayor.Their role: analyze the conditions, informing lift customers on the conditions and together with the guides at the guide bureau taking the decision if the lift could open or not on a daily basis. La Grave has become known as one of the world's most extreme ski resorts, featuring terrain that is usually reserved for backcountry areas in the Chugach, Alps, Himalayas, Andes and Caucus mountain ranges. Simply, La Grave offers lift service to some of the biggest and boldest terrain in the world.
