Terje wins lawsuit against Norwegian bank

In February this year The Norwegian National Bank (DnB NOR) published a photo of Terje HÃ¥konsen on the frontpage of its real estate paper. The bank had not asked for permission to use the photo, and claimed that it didn't know it was a photo of HÃ¥konsen. The snowboard pro sued, and earlier this week the two parties settled in court.

According to HÃ¥konsen's lawyer, Joakim Marstrander, is the settlement of 240,000NOK (approximately €30,000) the largest of its kind in Norwegian history. Rune Garborg, President of Marketing at DnB Nor says to a Norwegian newspaper that he is happy the parties came to a solution.

HÃ¥konsen originally sued for 850,000NOK, but this claim was rejected by the bank. From the 240,000NOK the parties now settled on, 140,000NOK (approximately €18,000) will be donated to a national fund teaching Norwegian school children the importance of eating organic produce. The remaining 100,000NOK will be used to pay for legal costs.

"The schools can do more than to just tell the children that milk and bread is healthy. People should also be aware that there's a lot of misleading advertising out there, and that just because a producer says something is healthy doesn't make it so," HÃ¥konsen said.

HÃ¥konsen has, with the victory over the bank, set a new standard in these sort of cases and given a voice to people who have been used in commercial affairs without being aware and paid for it.
