Skullcandy Sista Sessions

They're funny things, contests. For some cosmic reason the dates and weather never really want come to an agreement. The results can be such a junk show. Riders will have thrown a U-ey halfway around the planet to ride. And upon arrival the "contest" ends up being either groping through the course due to an ethereally annoying fog screen or feeling so mind-numbingly cold that all those shots in the movies and mags seem like a total scam, like some fairy tale of fun in a catalog. But then come those days when God sticks out his big ol' index finger and blasts away all the clouds and exhales a perfect day upon us.

This is basically how it went down for Sista Sessions. Over 50 girls from 13 different countries came together to throw some hot potatoes and mash up some handrails in the Penken Park in Mayrhofen. Riders like Lisa Filzmoser and Basa Stevulova were there to throw some meat at the park and clearly showed up for the main event, but all types of things were going down alongside sunny tunes and laughs. Beginners were fine-tuning their skills to the next level with the SMT Snowboard School, Les Ettes had an art show dangling in the wind, choco-waffles and hot chocolates were served to keep the girls' chocolate level at a safe level.

Photobucket Pants down the funnest comp ever!

The true sweetness was going down in Penken's setup, where the girls were stabbing for cash and Billabong was offering a one-year sponsorship for one rider. Sounds like some Save-a-Rider foundation shizzle, but this was legit. Slovenia's Urška Pribošič (whoa, total cut and paste on that one), who actually qualified through the Video Contest, smashed some big spins into first. Local Tini Gruber was here to defend the valley with her steez and showed everyone what all that fresh goat milk can do to little legs on some beefy kickers, she took second spot. Third place was scooped by Claire Frost. The title for best non-sponsored rider and a one-year clothing sponsorship with Billabong Girls went to the delighted Argentinean Chani Michaux.

All in all, the day was blessed and no one could complain about the weather. Instead, I heard a few "damn, there's no waffles left". None left for the slowpokes like myself... Props to the organizers on putting a good girls comp on the map and finally figuring out how to control the weather. See you next year, me hopes!
