Horsefeathers Zeke Jacket

So plaid is back on a pandemic level across the shredosphere. It's come and gone into fashion throughout the years, but did you ever wonder where plaid truly originated? Trust me, this distinctive and seemingly ubiquitous pattern has been around well before lumberjacks started chopping logs in flannel shirts with square patterns in a myriad of colors...

You may have guessed that Scotland is the birthplace of plaid, if you're familiar with their traditional man skirts, which keep you comfy and lets the boys below breathe easily. Tartan is actually the original word for for the cross-lined pattern, and plaid is simply the Gaelic word for "blanket". Scottish lads always had these scarf-type blankets tossed over their shoulders. Probably something to wrap themselves with on nights where the Laphroaig was flowing a bit too freely and fellows would sleep where they fell.

Different patterns represented different areas and clans. In 1764 an act was passed to ban the patterns, hoping it would simmer the beef that was cooking between waring clans. It kind of reminds me of the modern-day attempts of curtailing the "gang banging" deaths due to the endless war between Blood and Crips, LA's most notorious gangs.

So when heading out to do battle with your shred blade at your local snowy Highlands, get yourself a tartan kilt and channel the spirit of those immortal warriors. Or wait, actually that sounds like a brutally cold (and potentially ice burning) scenario for your plum sack... If you are going for the Tartan Warrior look to fight gravity in the powdery battle fields, a better option might be the Zeke Jacket by Horsefeathers.
