LOG BOOK - FIRST REPORT

The Pirate Log #1 - All photos by Lucci

This is the first entry in our Merry Pirate Log on Method. With luck, me hearty's, it will not be the last entry! For the rest of this season we hope to have weekly updates - but being Pirates and all, we won't promise anything!

Here, the latest updates of what happened to us while shooting and to give you a sneak preview of the latest photos. As you might have heard, our first movie, 'SHOOT YOUR FRIENDS!' was filmed completely on Super8 with no computer animations or graphics. Everything was done in analog to get the effect we were looking for. We are doing the same for this season's video, because we love the Super8 format. Our next movie project is called 'Pirate Radio' and features more or less the same riders like in 'SYF!'.

Filming 'Pirate Radio' started at the first Backyard Camp in the first week of January. In one way the weather was good, because it was snowing, but it sucked for shooting. So, we used that time to learn about avalanches and touch up on our back country awareness skills. In our crew, it’s the first rule - Never go back country without a shovel (for building kickers and saving lifes), a probe and a Peep. During these days, we learned how to handle the equipment. Two nice guys from SAAC taught us about dangerous spots on the mountain and informed us how to handle certain situations and conditions. It was a realy useful start in the season - we recommend anybody who goes backcountry to lookinto it.

Still, from a shooting point of view it was quite shitty time. We hadonly 1 bluebird day compounded by the whole Pirates crew except Gigi, Bags and Hannes getting (sea)sick. So the only guys who could ride on that 1 goodday were Hannes, Chandu, Gigi and Lucki Draxl. Even then, Lucki wasn’t lucky at all, stomping his first b/s 180 but slammed in the compressionand fucked up his sholder. He was Helivaced and taken straight to Hospital. The other actors stomped their moves without injuries. Trick of the day came from none other than GiGi, who landed the smoothest f/s7 ever in the last inches of the trany.

After the Backyard camp the Pirates docked in Innsbruck to shoot astraight rail. One of the new Pirates this season is the Russian railkiller, Mitja Fresenko, who hates olli pads in front of rails. he landed smooth lipslides, nosepress and did it frontside.

A few days later we went to Warth, a great resort on the Arlberg with lots of snow. Basti found the best spot ever. A natural kicker between rocks and a nice landing that was a litle flat but Andi Lehmann and Gigi had the power to stomp their tricks.

The lodge, that GiGi’s ouncle owns, Backyard home for quite a while now.

We placed our kicker under a litle hill that was a litle scetchy, but to short to be dangerous. When chandu went for doing the Inrun the whole side slipped down...it looked scary but the snow stopped just in front of the kicker.
