Billabong Girls holds design for humanity

An event that makes 'giving back' a cause to celebrate. On November 8th 2007, Billabong Europe launched their first Design For Humanity Event in Paris. This prestigious evening brought together nearly 200 people including media and retailers from all over Europe.

Design For Humanity is Billabong Girls charitable division that seeks to generate funds from the sale of limited edition products to donate to environmental and humanitarian causes.

The charity chosen for this project is SurfAid International. It is a non-profit humanitarian aid organisation that runs community-based health, education and disease prevention programs in village areas of the Mentawai Islands and Nias region of Western Sumatra.

The evening commenced with a gallery exhibition showing the work of three very special artists: Blami (Spain), Andy Ward (UK), and JM Tixier (France). These artists have joined the Billabong cause and have exclusively created designs for a special edition that will be part of the next Billabong Girls Collection. Their artwork will be available in stores in June 2008 and the profit will go to SurfAid International.

This European trio of artists will also be part of the jury of a big Design For Humanity contest. The contest is a search for one talented artist, the prize to join the ranks of Blami, Andy Ward and JM Tixer and have there design become the fourth t-shirt in the Design For Humanity series.

The contest will be launched in January of 2008 in all Billabong stores, across the press and on the exclusive Design For Humanity website.

The tee-shirt and the bag Design for Humanity created especially for the event will be sold in Billabong stores throughout Europe from February 2008. The profit will go to SurfAid International. At the same time, Billabong will work with SurfAid on an education program for schools on an international level. The objective is to educate the young people and encourage them to fight against poverty in the world.
