Posse Page: Growling Tribe

The Growling Tribe is a pack of wolves out of the Allgäu in Bavaria. We sat down with Stephan Ruchte, Marco Rinke & Sebi Kriehn to get the lowdown on how the crew started, see who's in the posse and find out what they are all about. But first, check their new full movie "Anthem of the Sun" right here:

Who are you? Why were you hiding in the forest?
The Growling Tribe is a pack of wild dogs. We hunt quietly, we don't bother the enemy and we see no difference in species. Dominik Hanke, Sebi Kriehn and Juli Wagner are coyotes and with their skate maneuvers they hunt the concrete hot valleys. Wolfgang Natterer, Stefan Meyer, Philip Kalkbrenner and Chris Geng are four snow wolves hitting the streetspots in the cold winter months. Marco Rinke is the crossing of both breeds and skates and snowboards. Stephan Ruchte the alpha male of the pack.

Tales taught me that wolves are dangerous. Are you going try to blow down my house or dress up like my grandma?
Oh no, definitively not. Or maybe...
Juli Wagner & Stephan RuchteFor how long have you hunted together?
For Stephan, Marco and I it started about 5 years ago. Gradually we filmed with more people and released some online clips. 1 1/2 years ago we decided to give that crew a suitable name.Growling Tribe was born!

At the end of the day where do you bring your kill?

Our base is in Kaufbeuren. That's a small city in the Allgäu in Bavaria, Germany, where four of us are from. The rest of the mob is also from the Allgäu.
Marco Rinke, Dominik Hanke & Sebi KriehnIn the cold and hot seasons, where do you find the most delicious prey?
In our region there aren't good spots because of the rural architecture with woodrails and stuff like this. In all seasons we are mostly on the roads in betwen Bavaria and Austria. This year we went to Stuttgart filming a lot of skateboarding as you can see in our new movie. The year before we went to Berlin. There's no better vacation than hanging around with your homies, no doubt.

Are you planning to visit other tribes around the continent this season?
We have got some plans but it depends on this year's snow situation. Sweden, Finland, Czech and Poland are on the list and we will try to hit most of them.
Wolfi blessing the forestDid you ever get into any fights with another tribe, peed on their territory or kidnap their females?
The only tribe we have a problem with is the police. We got kicked out a lot by the police and caretakers of buildings. The funniest one was in Stuttgart when a caretaker's wife showed up and talked so much crap. Boffy's reaction was just hilarious.

Did you brothers ever fight over a meal?
Stephan: Marco and and I went to the same class at school and we hated each other. But sometime we still hung around together. One day we went to Kempten for filming a bit of skateboard. That's how it all began, since then there was just peace in the pack.

Wolves are known for their lack of willing to share with the others, do you get touchy with your territory?

If we find a new unknown spot we certainly don't tell it to anyone, but we often exchange spots with other crews. It's just a give and take matter and shouldn't be the biggest secret.Who is the elephant?
Albert, Marco's grandfather.

Is he an awesome cool grandfather?

Marco: He is too good for this world. Always motivated as fuck and always smiling. No distance is too far for him. He loves Grateful Dead and Bob Marley.
Albert is a boss! One for all and all for one?
Sebi: Last winter around December, Marco went to a local mountain, Grasgehren. That day he ended up breaking his collarbone. Few weeks after, me and Hanky went snowboarding. It was one of Hanky's first time and not a happy one because he also broke his collarbone. Then not long after it was my turn. I dislocated my shoulder in my backyard, during a party, on the rail set we set up.

Stephan, did you ever got wounded during a session?
Luckily I never had a serious injury, just some bruises when i got hit by a board or got a wheelbite while filming a line, but once Wolfi knocked me out as you can see here in the teaser of "Anthem of the Sun"!

Check out last year's movie:
