Emerica gets Wild In Stuttgart

Wild in the Streets is an unconventional event that is happening simultaneously on the same day globally. To add a global impact, skateboarders will take to the streets all over the world this summer. In Stuttgart, Germany, skateboarders will take over the city center this Sunday, June 24. The meeting point for the Emerica Wild in the Streets is at the Nuttenpark-Skatepark, Pfarrstrasse in Stuttgart at 14:00.

Facilitated by Emerica, Wild in the Streets '07 will bring skaters together from all over Stuttgart and globally for what will turn out to be the largest, out-of-control, kick-ass street session ever. Featuring best trick contests, free product, and plenty more at a series of undisclosed real street locations throughout Stuttgart, skaters truly will be Wild in the Streets with Emerica.

From Nuttenpark Skatepark, they will receive the local Stuttgart Wild in the Streets skate itinerary. This itinerary will disclose the times and secret skate locations of where the group is headed. The itinerary will also have skating directions from each spot to the next, and will be available only at Nuttenpark Skatepark at 14.00.

The goal of Wild in the Streets is to build community and raise awareness of skateboarding and the needs of skateboarders. It is hoped that Wild in the Streets will someday take on the character of a large-scale, decentralized grassroots movement for the benefit of skateboarders everywhere. Emerica believes in the ability of skateboarders to empower themselves to do great things.

Taking its cues from a diverse history of "organized coincidences", Emerica's Wild in the Streets is an unconventional skateboarding event born on the streets of New York City in 2004. Pedestrian jaws dropped at the sight of hundreds of skateboarders invading these downtown districts en masse. The premise was simple: meet up with the Emerica team at a local skate shop and go street skating, literally, throughout the cities, eventually ending up at a block party barbecue where the skating continued.

Wild in the Streets is the attempt to gather skateboarders of every age, color and creed to converge on city streets around the globe in the celebration of pure skateboarding. The event declares that skateboarding is no longer a spectator sport  and the invisible barriers that separate pro skaters from the rest of us should be abolished. Wild in the Streets is comprised of all equal participants.

The event also contends that conventional organized skateboarding competitions and events are, in effect, a misrepresentation of skateboarding, safely and conveniently re-packaged for mainstream corporate consumption. Wild in the Streets desire is to be about challenging conformity.

The event acknowledges that the very society that has marginalized skateboarders is now formally engaged in the penetration and misappropriation of original and distinct skate culture. Wild in the Streets is about reclaiming ownership.

Wild in the Streets asserts that the pure essence of skateboarding is in the ability of skateboarders to successfully reinterpret their existing environments to create fun. The event takes skateboarding back to where it was born — in the streets. Together, we can defy convention and reject skateboarding's image factories and the trends marketers use to divide and categorize skateboarders based off the hair style or the cut of pants. Wild in the Streets is about transcending these petty, trend-based diversions.

The primary purpose of Wild in the Streets is pure and simple: fun. This is, and always will be, first and foremost, for this is skateboarding.
