Ketchup with Scott Stevens

So you've come for some fresh sauce... Well, to be honest we found this Ketchup in the back of the fridge. It's a few months old but it still tastes good.

With all his one/no-foot shenanigans and wild & wacky moves he's been inventing over years, it's hard to not call this dude the most creative rider in the wide, wide, wild world of shred. Scott Stevens is the kind of rider whose parts are forever seared into your frontal cortex, he's been one of our favorites for ever and we can't wait to see what kind of mystifying maneuvers he's going to unleash on snowboarding's collective consciousness this year!

Hey Scott, how’s it hanging?
Things are hanging really well! I just got back from two pretty gnarly ankle injuries, they're feeling about 70% so I'm pretty stoked. Jesse Burtner and i just did a trick tip today for Transworld's trick tips, so that was awesome too, because we havent ridden together all season. It was awesome!

What’s up with all the acrobatic tip-tapping on snow in the ThinkThank flicks, that’s some classy stuff sir!
Haha, thanks, I guess it's mainly just trying to do things that I haven't seen before or add-ons to ideas that I get from all my friends. I love old-school skate styles, therefore that's a ton of my inspiration. I love watching Ray Barbee and Mike Vallely doing all these crazy boneless, no-comply, one-footed tricks.

How did you come up with the front flip to one-footer in Stack Footy?
It was pretty much how a lot of my tricks come up, one idea doesn't really work and new ideas pop into play unexpectedly. It wasn't a plan B or anything, it was just random. That setup was actually intended to be a front flip case and that just wasn't happening. I'm not saying it won't happen but it was definitely set up for that move.

How has the season been for you up until now?
Slow!!!!! I sprained my left ankle in the beginning of November and then broke my tibia in December. That took me out for 2 months. Then I tweaked my groin the other day. So stacking footy has been at a low for the year, haha. I'm gonna try to pull some stuff off though.

What’s it like living out of a suitcase for most of the year, do you still enjoy some off-snow time every now and then?

Yea, but I'm young now and I'm gonna take advantage of the lifestyle in front of me. If that means shredding all year round, hahaha, of course I'll do it! What the heck else would I do? Haha!

How did you start out as a shredder and are you stoked about where you are now in terms of a "career"?
My dad just wanted to get my sister and I lessons and I can't thank him enough for getting us up there. I'm stoked and grateful but there is way more I want to accomplish on my board. But I'm super grateful to have awesome sponsors, good friends and family support.

What made you send in your footy to the Robotfood crew back in the day?
I loved their videos and I just wanted to get my foot in the door anyway I could.

Any new plans for a new movie with the gang?

Umh, I'm not sure. Right now I'm trying to film with Transworld and Think Thank. I'm in a little over my head with the injuries, but I still have some of April and May to film.

What’s so awesome about your sponsors and who are they?
Oh wow, they're sick! I mean, everyone is perfect. Amazing brands with great team managers and great product. Yeah, CAPiTA, Volcom, Deeluxe, Union, Smith, Magical Go-Go wax, Dakine (flow team), Theory Skateshop, getting free gear from those guys never gets old.

When talking about riding, what would be your ideal setup?

Just riding park with my friends. I love jibbing but I also really like pipe and jumps. I film jibs because I feel like that's my niche but that doesn't mean I don't love all that other stuff.

Any tuning tips when shredding those playgrounds?
Ahhh kinda, I just always use Magical Go-Go so I'm hauling in flat zones and I detune my jib board quite a bit.

What’s your all time favorite trick? And who should be performing it in the snowboard flick of your dreams?
Travis Parker with some fastplants and Terje with some Sprocking Cat methods.

Can we expect some more snazzy dancing moves from you?
Hahaha, yes, of course!

Anyone you’d like to thank or say hi to?

My family, friends, Joe Baldwin, Kelly, all my sponsors, Burtner and all the Think Thank dudes, Gary Milton for trying to get my part together and Keenan and Jeff Burke.
