Ketchup With Halldór Helgason

It's official, the Helgasons are the hottest thing in shred sticking right now. Big bro Eiki has been on the radar for a couple of seasons, and now the younger half of the Flying Icelanders is showing the world that the Force is strong in the Helgason bloodline. Halldór is his name, and straight crushing it is his game!

How is it hanging, dude? What's new?
It's all good, not much is new, just been chilling and riding some ice rink.

How was the Frontline Rail Jam? Why do you think you won?
Frontline Rail Jam was so sick, perfect down rail and a perfect down-flat-down. I don't really know why I won, but I guess it was because I did tricks that the judges liked, hehe.

Are you getting used to winning?
No, no, not at all. I'm always surprised, I just try my best and see what happens.

How was filming with Factor Films this year?
Filming with Factor this year was really fun, like always. I know everyone there so it's really chill to be with them. I mostly filmed rails with Factor and then when I was filming with Standard I was riding more backcountry and park jumps. Too bad it didn't go well at all in the backcountry this season. But it was fun anyway and hopefully it will go better next season.

Plans for this season? Any new magic rail tricks you are thinking of trying to pull off this season?
No comment, it's not good to tell everyone what new stuff you are working on because then you will probably see a video of someone else doing it before you, hehe.

Would you rather cab 270 or cab 180 into a rail?
I would rather cab 180.

Change-ups on rails? Tech or Spastic?

I like change-ups on rails as long as you pop from trick to trick, not sliding around, I don't really like that.

Good thing about riding for DC?
The good thing about riding for DC is that they've got sick outerwear, streetwear, shoes, boots and boards. Everyone on the team is really cool as well, so I'm really stoked on DC!

Which do you think will happen first off a rail: 540 on or 450 pretzel out?
It's already been done, front board pretzel 450 out, Jake Kuzyk did it in "All Day, Every Day".

What do you think about the narrow stance fad?
I prefer a wide stance, but everyone should just ride exactly how they want, there is no right or wrong way.

Tell us quick why you showed up to ISPO Method/Skullcandy after party with your wet muddy snowboard clothes and your snowboard.

Hehe, that was because after the contest finished, I was going to take a taxi to my hotel room but I didn't have a phone to call one. Then I saw a taxi driver that was picking up some other people and he called another cab for me. When my taxi showed up he didn't want me in the car because I was so wet and dirty and had my snowboard with me, so he just said some madness in German and drove away, hehe.

By that point it was like midnight and I was all by myself, out in the middle of nowhere in Munich. So I was chilling in the parking lot, trying to find a taxi when some people showed up and said they were going to the Sullcandy/Method after party, so I just jumped in with them and went straight to the party. It was pretty sweet, because I had my nasty clothes on and I got to cut to the front of the line and the people that drove me came in with me as well, hehe, so I was stoked.

Anywhere in the world you wish you could snowboard that doesn't usually snow? Jib the the pyramids, perhaps?

Hehe that would be sweet! But I would really like to film rails in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. It almost never snows there but there are so many sick rails, so hopefully this season, hehe.

Would your rather win 20,000€ in a rail jam or get the closer in a video?
I would rather get the closer in a video for sure, that's something you will always have and will always remember. Winning a rail jam doesn't really mean that much, it's just fun to ride in them and most of the time there are good after parties.

What do you think about fellow Icelandic rider Gulli Gudmundson's part in "not bad!"?

I think it's so sick, he is a really cool guy and always fun to hang out with. I'm really stoked on him and it's always fun to watch his parts, he is definitely pushing it.

Tell us about a funny story when you and Eiki were kids. Did he beat you up at all?

Hehe, no, we didn't fight that much, but I got some stories. Once our parents bought boxing gloves and a punching bag for us. One night when we were home alone, Eiki and I started fighting and he punched me so hard in the face that I started crying. So my oldest brother (Joi) got pretty angry at him and knocked Eiki out, hehe.

Another time I was chilling up on a cliff and Eiki was under it. I threw a rock down the cliff and it landed right on his head! He got the craziest hole in his head and blood all over so he had to wear a swimming cap when we went swimming later. Then one other time, Eiki and his friend were hunting bees and putting them in a jar. After a while they got bored and decided to throw the jar as high as they could in the air and let it break on the ground, but instead it landed right on my head, hehe, good times...

When you fall on a rail and get hurt do you ever wish the damn camera guy would stop filming you in agony?
Hehe, no, I like those shots. I had to deal with that a lot this season in the backcountry, hehe. It would be fun to see my bail part from this season, I think it could be a banger.

Best session this season? Worst session this season? Why?

Best session this season was the first day out filming, me and Eiki filmed two spots on the same day in my hometown in Iceland and I got 3 shots. The worst day filming was probably waking up at 5 am and going out into the backcountry every day for 2 weeks and just straight up getting killed every day, hehe.

Would you rather wear wet socks or wet underwear?
Wet socks for sure, I'm used to that.

Do you think you will ever go to university?
No, I sure hope not.
