Janne Korpi Sets Sights on Vancouver 2010

O'Neill team rider Janne Korpi made a spectacular clean sweep at last weekend's FIS contest in Canada, winning both the Halfpipe and Big Air events.

The 23-year-old Finnish rider was on fire all weekend, capturing the Halfpipe crown on Friday night ahead of Canada's Jeff Batchelor and fellow compatriot Antti Autti. Despite choosing not to focus on the FIS contest circuit this season, Korpi's victory nevertheless catapults him to the top of the FIS Halfpipe World Cup standings.

The very next day, Korpi underlined his remarkable versatility and natural talent by dominating the Big Air event with another awesome display of technical and stylish riding, pushing Austria's Stefan Falkeis and fellow Finn Jaakko Ruha into 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Korpi's outstanding Halfpipe performance in Stoneham ensures that he will represent Finland at the Olympic Games in Vancouver next month. The goofy-footed rider's current winning form will undoubtedly mark him out as a real threat when he straps in to compete against the world's best Halfpipe riders on one sport's biggest global stages. Following his double triumph in Canada, Korpi is headed down to a training camp in Michigan where he'll be looking to dial in his double cork tricks. Prior to the Olympics, Janne will also compete in the TTR 5-STAR Canadian Open in order to earn some of the points he'll need to secure qualification to The Oakley Arctic Challenge - another big goal for Korpi this season.

After injury put paid to his ambitions of finishing inside the Top 10 of the TTR World Tour rankings last season, the Finnish shredder is super motivated to regain his rightful place among the world's best riders.
Reflecting on his weekend exploits in Stoneham and his immediate future, Korpi said: "I'm super happy to secure my qualification to the Olympic Games for the second time. I've suffered a few injuries in the last 18 months, so it hasn't been an easy road to Vancouver. But I'm really satisfied with the way I'm riding at the moment - I can drop in at the Olympic Games with a lot of confidence, and I'm hopeful I can do well there."
