20 -23 February, 2006 Val d'Isere, France - The TTR 4(four) Star XBOX Big Day Out presented by Quiksilver took stadium Slopestyle events to another level, delivering what the TTR has become famous for; entertainment, credible action and international stars mixed into a eclectic showcase under perfect course conditions.
The event, celebrating its 10th Anniversary drew record crowds and cheering fans to its village turning the idyllic town in heart of the French Alps, into a powerful communications venue for all event partners and participators.
The four day Slopestyle event title and respective TTR Championships points was battled out by a world class field consisting of current TTR Nr#2 Mathieu Crepel (FRA), freshly crowned Olympic Bronze Halfpipe medalist, Markku Koski, British Champion, UK's Tyler Chorlton, Scottsman Scott McMorris, Finland's Iikka Backstom, Sweden's Hampus Mosesson, Czech Republic's best performer Martin Cernik and last years XBOX second placed Jacob Wilhelmson confirmed.
Head Judge Tomi Toiminen stated that the level was unbelievable, "Riders were performing more technical tricks more consistently than we've been used to seeing during the season. The combination of an excellent course coupled with XBOX's stadium-type location pushed the riders and made for an amazing show."
As the event was brought to closure it was Sweden's Hampus Mosesson who took top honors, outclassing 2nd placed Jaakko Ruha(FIN) and Aleksi Vanninen(FIN) who finished in third in front of Martin Cernik(CZE).
The win took Mosesson into the top 16 on TTR World Rankings. Mosesson still has one of the required four results to obtain before the end of the season to complete a full cache of Championships points. The flying Swede currently holds one 6(six) Star win, one 4(four) Star win and a 14th at a 5(five) Star event. A win at either a 4, 5 or 6 Star event before the end of the season could take him very close to a podium finish.
More movement came from Finalnd's Janne Korpi who moved from 6th to 4th place on the TTR Championships ladder. His 5th place at the XBOX Big Day Out brings him within 66.69 points of an end of season podium finish. Yes there is still plenty of juice left in this tour as it moves onwards to Norway and the 5(five) Star The Arctic Challenge where the best riders will converge to compete for 850 TTR points and the Quarterpipe title.
