The fourth edition of the Red Bull Hike&Ride is scheduled for the end of February 2006. This event is unique in that snowboarders and skiers have just 72 hours to film, edit and add the soundtrack to their own clip—and even star in the leading role. Hiking and riding, of course. A total of eight teams compete: seven professional teams are invited, and one public team is selected.
Last year's public team, David Garcìa Cristobal and Luis Gonzalez, arrived directly by car from Madrid for the event. In the face of the other competitors' seemingly supernatural riding skills one thing was clear for the two: "We'll have to convince them with our creativity!" That same creativity robbed them of their sleep; in fact, Gonzalez never even saw his hotel room Saturday night. So let it be said from the start: the Red Bull Hike&Ride is all about long days, short nights, awesome clips and a film night remarkably similar to that of the Oscars.
But most of all it is an exceptional experience for those who get to hike and film with the pros. And that's the reason we are looking for one public team to join the competition with the seven teams of pros in the 2006 edition. So how can you become a contestant? With a three- to four-minute application film, featuring ski and snowboard scenes and a brief presentation of the riders. The team that will compete in the event one month later is decided on in an initial round by an independent jury and then by means of a "public voting" held on the official Internet site www.redbullhikeandride.com. The decision is based on the quality, originality and creativity of the films submitted as an application to the event.
Starring in 2006: Adam Gendle (UK), Scott McMorris (UK), Robin Kaleta (Czech), Jiri Lausecker (Czech), Martin Winkler (AUT), Alois Bickel (AUT), Brice Lequertier (FRA), Fred Moras (FRA), Sverre Liliequist (SWE), Kaj Zackrisson (SWE).
