With a slew of industry reporters present at a press conference at their Waterbury, Vermont headquarters, the Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate announced today that it has invented Stay Positive Camber.

Okay, so we exaggerate a little. Or a lot. We admit that there wasn’t a slew of reporters. Hell, there wasn’t even a press conference. And, okay, we admit that we haven’t invented positive camber, either. So we unfortunately can’t claim in Transworld Business that we “have a patent coming to start getting patent revenue” for positive camber. Like skiers invented reverse camber in the late 90s, we have to grudgingly acknowledge that two-planker ski Nazis invented positive camber also. Damn skiers—but at least they aren’t threatening all us snowboarders with patent royalties.

On the flipside of Rome’s playful, loose reverse camber Poprock Technology line, the Stay Positive Camber boards balance out the collection with a loaded feel that a bunch of riders prefer for different types of riding. Mounting up Mods, Agents, Artifacts and Lo-Fis, Rome’s team riders spend some or all of their time popping off positive camber boards. Bjorn rides the Mod, Agent and Artifact for his seamless blend of kickers, lines and jibs. Will Lavigne rides the Agent for jumping and the Artifact for hand rails. And Johnnie Paxson steps on the Agent to kill pretty much everything you put in front of him.

And then there are riders who mix it up, spending some time blowing shit up on Poprock and the rest of their time happily on the positive side of the tracks. LNP rides the positive camber Artifact for tricks where he spins onto rails (he rides the Artifact 1985 for press tricks). Eiki rides the Mod for double corks and other jump tricks (he rides the the Artifact 1985 for rails, ledges, and jibs). MFR rides the Lo-Fi for jumps and lines (she rides the Lo-Fi 1985 for rails). Johnny Lazz rides the Agent for jumps and lines (he rides the Artifact 1985 for rails).

As someone in snowboarding once said, “you can’t patent fun.”

But you can patently have fun with Stay Positive Camber.
