Weickl and Kittler were the most impressive riders in Leogang
19th march 2006. Max Weickl from Hallein (AUT) and Roy Kittler from Pirna (GER) were the victorious rider of the Snowpark Tour 2006. Snowboarder Max Weickl was taking the title for „Most impressive Rider" in the final event in Leogang, Roy Kittler could defend his title "Most impressive Skier from last year". Also Max Weickl took home another victory in the team battle with his team from Lech am Arlberg (AUT). Steffi Hamann from Kempten (GER) was the best female snowboarder.
The finals were hold at the best conditions with blue bird sky and perfect shaped obstacles in the Funpark / Leogang for the second time after 2002. Due to the warm weather and the great park the riders were able to perform at their best level which was impressive to watch for some hundreds of spectators. The best 80 rider of ten qualification-stops in Austria, Germany and Switzerland came to Leogang to perform their runs with two tabletop kickers (7/12 m und 9/16 m), a hip and plenty of rails.
Snowboard: Weickl beats Bernert
The show down for the snowboarder went on Sunday. The best 4 riders of each ten stops of the Snowpark Tour rode against in a team battle. In part some of the team-runs were performed as a spectacular „gunfire. Four teams qualified then fort he Super final: The Swiss from Leysin rode against the Austrian from Lech and the two German teams from Garmisch (Zugspitze) and Oberstdorf (Fellhorn). The team from Lech with the riders Max Weickl, Patrik Huber, Michael Macho and Simon Holzknecht impressed the judges Christian Reinhardt, Atomic-Rider Erwin „Pole" Polanc, Bjarni Thor Valdimarsson and Tommi „Mellow" Marsh with the most consistent performance ahead of the teams from Leysin and Zugspitze.
The best three teams were invited on the same day to the Method Boot Camp in Nordpark/Innsbruck.
The outstanding rider Max Weickl from the team Lech was also chosen to be the „Most impressive rider 2006". He came out to be a fan of the Snowpark Tour: „ It's my fourth tour, because it's cool to compete there", said the 21-year-old winner. „The jumps are always well shaped, in compare to other events the judges also take note of rider's style, and their rider´s community is great and strong too. " His runs with big style combined with a very technical and creative performance persuaded the judges most.
Manuel Bernert (AUT), strong in the qualification, couldn't show all his tricks as he was a little handicapped from a injury and so he got 4th." Max was running over 100 percent and his runs were at high risk. ", summarized Tommi Marsh. Weickl landed tricks like Cab 900, frontside 720 and huge Backside Rodeos at the hip and he is for sure ready to perform well in some of the pro events he got an invitation: TTR-Events Wängl Tängl 2006 in Mayrhofen, Nescafé Champs Open 2007 in Leysin and the next Nokia Totally Board Event in China.
Patrik Huber from Warth(AUT) had also performed very well in the super final and did Transfer Backside Boardslide on the Suzuki Straight Rail, Cab 900 on the first kicker, a Backside 720 on the second one and big Backside Rodeos on the Corner
In his runs and got 2nd.Luca Cavigelli (SUI) super big and stylish Backside 720s und 900s und a Backflip on the hip.
The girl's session was dominated by Steffi Hamann with unbeatable tricks like Backside and Cab 540 on the kickers and nice Method Airs on the hip. She could qualify for the Roxy Chicken Jam in St. Moritz: „I'm so stoked to bet her invited", said Steffi. Second place went for Vanessa Waldenhofer from Wels (AUT) ahead of Isabel Bolli from Davos (SUI). They all got outfits von Roxy and a Snowboard set from Atomic. The winner girl from the Chinese Snowpark Tour, Yin Di from Beijing placed 10th in her first competition outside of her country.
