Boardsport has been a part of our store on Alsterglacis since the eighties. At the height of the windsurfing trend, the strings were pulled here in the German headquarters at F2. Winter arrived in the nineties and the snowboard shop “Stalefish” brought the hippest board labels to the north. In 2001, Freerider managing director Christian moved into the casemates below the train tracks at Hamburg's Dammtor and set up the workshop for building the first hand-made kiteboards. The former surf and sailing instructor from Zell am See advised on all matters relating to wind and waves via his sales counter. In 2003 there was no longer enough space. Production was relocated abroad and the store was converted into a shop. Everything related to kitesurfing could be found in the range. In 2005 the range was expanded to include snowboards plus functional winter clothing. Hamburg's boarder scene had a new meeting place. In 2007 the sales area was doubled and expanded with an even larger selection of boards, bindings and winter sports clothing in winter and kites, kiteboards and wetsuits in summer. People still meet to gossip at the new coffee bar.
