2nd Melter Rail Jam went down on Sept 25-26th with around 60 riders from all over Europe. The event was organised by Helsingin Lumilautailijat and Melter riders to celebrate street riding, community, the newest snowboard films and upcoming riders.
The event kicked off on Friday with a DIY video night and a community hangout at Burton Store Helsinki.
The main event, the rail jam itself, was held at Tähtitorninmäki on Saturday. The riders put on a show on a challenge kink rail, up-down rail and epic street jump. Despite occasional rain, around 1000 people showed up to watch and cheer. After a good day of boarding, the night ended with a sold-out afterparty at Music Bar with world premieres of United Chaos' "Core Memory" and "Crybaby" + solo projects from Roope Rautiainen, Mikko Rehnberg and Jesse Augustinus, following a legendary dance floor with DJ's and live music from Snapdragon.
We asked for comments about the event from a couple of riders:
Telma Särkipaju:
”It was nice to start the season together with everyone. Boarding felt a little sketchy after a long break, but we had fun anyway! It was cool to see people show up to watch even though the weather wasn’t the best. And talk about the sold-out premiere and after-party?! That truly got me hyped for the season!”
Marko Malsub:
”Right when our weather shifts from sunny summer to dark fall. When seasonal sadness knocks on your door... comes Melter Railjam with a snow to board!
Inspired to see how you made such an amazing event from so little. Like there’s no snow falling down in probably two months, but it felt like the season is fully on!
Big ups to all the organisers and Roope and Janne for killing it during the jam too!”
