A little over a week ago I returned from the Sexual Snowboarding and BYNDxMDLS movie tour feeling like a liquor-addled junkie. And while it may take a brief bit to shake the organ rot and brain haze I accumulated on the road, I also returned from the whirlwind of barely-contained chaos with triumphant news. From London to Stockholm, Tallinn to Innsbruck, and every city we ventured in between*, there was a palpable enthusiasm and unmistakable appreciation for the films, with many of the stops yielding full-or near-capacity crowds. (Attendance in Berlin was sparse, but that was kind of expected. I will say that the people who were there had just as little of a problem sending it in an empty nightclub as we did. Cheers to ya.)
But at the Warsaw premiere, for example, where tickets sold out at the tallest building in town well in advance of the Master Bay Table and BYND x MDLS the Movie showing, kids were buying tickets to other movies in the cinema and sneaking on over as to not miss out. In fact, the Warsaw and Prague stops might have been two of the wildest premieres I've ever seen, at least recently. The amount of shattered glass on the ground of the packed PM Club in Prague rendered it more of a giant, fractured mirror than a dance floor. I could recount an endless litany of tales but A) some of the boys would probably have my head and B) I think you get the point - shit was crazier than a teenage freakout.
There are still plenty of premieres on the way this winter from production companies across the movie spectrum. Whether you fancy loose edits cut with speed metal and trap beats, or these recent on-snow docudramas slathered with voiceovers and sappy confessions, continue to make a point of leaving the house to show your support. It makes a huge difference. The movie premiere is a long standing staple of our world and an event we need to make sure we don't take for granted.
As a wise and shameless addict once proclaimed, "Well-attended gatherings of today, yield the blowouts of tomorrow." While certain organs may never forgive you, that feral soul of yours (and maybe other parts of ya) will be thoroughly satisfied. Go out and get some. And if ya need some extra motivation, peruse these images for a glance at what you'll be missing! - Mike
