Firsts with Mark Sollors

Everyone remembers their first day on a snowboard, their first snowboard movie and their first turns. So we decided to grab possibly the nicest man in snowboarding, Mark Sollors and take him for a stroll down memory lane. We picked his brain and found out who and what first inspired the big man to become a pro snowboarder.

When did you first strap-in to your shred stick?
My first time boarding was when I was 8 years old. My brothers pushed me into it, literally. It wasn't until the following year that I got my first board and really got into it.

What was the first snowboard movie you ever watched?
The first movie that I ever watched was TB2. I was so stoked on that video, it was fucking epic. I remember one backflip in the movie that Matt Goodwill did, he dropped off a huge cliff into a mogul field then threw a huge backy on a side hit, it was so sick. I also loved Terje’s part, he had the ender in that movie and it was a hammer. He was shredding his wooden sword base board. Also Noah Salasnek had a hammer freestyle part played to Primus’ "Jerry was a Race Car Driver" and his board had that rad trucks-and-wheels base graphic.

Whose film part did you first froth over and inspired you to shred?
It definitely would have to be Devun Walsh’s part in the Resistance. That’s when I first realized what style was and defined snowboarding for me.

What has been the most memorable part that YOU filmed and why?

I would probably have to say the Transworld: In Color part. It was the part I worked the hardest on and the part that I'm most proud of. Although I'm feeling super motivated right now, so I'm hoping this season coming up will be a good one.

Which film and whose part are you most looking forward to this year?
The most hyped about film is The Art of Flight. It's gonna have unreal filming and riding so I'm always looking forward to what those guys produce. The Burton flick is gonna be tight too, I'm excited to see a few parts in that just because I went on a few trips with different people in the crew so I can't wait to see how it all comes together for everyone.
