News From The Hochkar Open

Hochkar Open, 07.02.2009, Senonerpark Hochkar

All good things come in threes. And so the riders of Lower Austria’s biggest snowboard contest, the Hochkar Open at the Senonerpark Hochkar located in Mostviertel, were lucky because the weather wasn`t as bad as expected. Although the wind made any jumps wider than 5 meters impossible it provided good visibility conditions on this Saturday.

The Hochkar Open 09 was in many respects more than one event out of millions. The starting field including Austria’s top rider Flo Mausser and a perfect shaped park ensured tricks on a very high level.

On Saturday 7th February the audience in the Senonerpark Hochkar saw snowboarding on its highest level. The contest which is part of the N.ASA Tour (new austrian snowboard association) should have been a Big Air but the weather avoided any jumps wider than a few meters. After restraining every single beach flag and sponsoring banner not to fly away, it was clear that there won`t be a big air battle for the riders. Luckily the park offers so many different and good obstacles. After a short discussion the riders and the organizers decided to have a session on kinked rail wallride combo. The competing riders didn`t really care and so they were proving that they can ride more than just kickers. Michi Stanschitz coped best with the modified conditions. Flo Mausser placed second and Lukas Perteneder qualified as third for the "Shred Down Austrian Masters 09“.

The rookie challenge was won by Egger Mathias, with Hobbiger Florian ranked second just before Pils David. As well the girls were rocking and first got Lisa Wohanka just before Lisi Wurzenberger and Carmen Gruber. With more then 1000,- €uro prize money the winners where really happy and enjoyed the prizegiving in the warm hut!

Despite strong wind and the modified format the crowd was part of a top snowboard contest. The Mostviertel proved again that it's worthy of being the venue of the largest snowboard event in Lower Austria.
