It's that time of the year, right before the winter season starts, that my sleep starts to get, well... unrestful. I keep having these recurring dreams about snowboarding jumbled together with other weirdness. You can see from past years, I had similar issues here and here. Last year, the doctors actually found a temporary remedy. I was told to sleep with my board in my bed and put some ice cubes under my pillow. It worked, but after this summer's party the house got trashed and so did the ice cube tray so the dreams are back.
Let me tell what I saw last night after I closed my eyes. I was living the American Dream. I mean the real "American Dream". The 50's were coming to an end, babies were booming, money was flowing, people we're smilling, lawns were mowed, fences were white, baseball stadiums were full, ice cream was floating in my root beer, cars were big and everything was covered in Americana-inspired geometric patterns.
Next thing I knew I was waiting at a traffic light strapped into my K2 Turbo Dream snowboard, up against a baby blue Chevy Impala. The blue boat of a car was revving his massive engine but I could still hear the Everly Brothers playing on his radio. The song was, fittingly, "All I have To Do is Dream". Boom, the light turned green, he pinned it and I went into full ninja tuck on my snowboard. We were flying down the road. The asphalt slowly turned white. The road became a trail on a mountain but everything was still covered in those colorful patterns. I was barreling down the trail, side by side with this massive hunk of metal at a big park booter.
I slowly pulled ahead right before we reached the jump and I sent it into a frontside triple cork 1260. That's when I knew I was dreaming, because I can barely do a 540... The skin covering my eyes flung open and I found myself in my disheveled bed, grabbing my heel with a melon grab. What a dream!
But if I am going to get some sleep, winter needs to start soon. Or I need to get a new ice tray.
Here is a video with an artist duo known as Electric Coffin who helped design the board telling you about their inspiration and how they Turbo Dream.
