DVD MAGAZINE v4.2 (with bonus)

(2003) Imagine this: you've subscribe to Method Mag, you go to your mailbox and you see a mag in a plastic blister with a dvd attached. 3 in 1, baby! You get the sickest snowboard content printed on paper and in video format! And some additional content on the website as well. That was Drew Stevenson and the Method gang's 3D vision of a snowboard magazine, and this is the second issue of it. A small industry revolution back then...

Cover shot: Romain De Marchi by Scott Sullivan

Behind the cover: That shot is, in fact, a bail. A pretty crazy one, though, seeing how committed Romain was, the size of that Alaskan cliff, and the violence of the impact.
No hiding behind that choice, with the fresh concept of crossed content between print, web, and video. The point exactly! Right when video media was taking over, the message was the following: no more fooling anyone anymore with print media. A hot topic as landed-tricks for action shots has always been an unwritten and worshiped rule over the years.
The thing is, snowboarding is not just about landing tricks, it’s people, friends, trips, hills, streets, bails, mostly bails actually, even prison ones sometimes! It’s our culture built by the more or less glamorous life stuff that inspired and made us who we are as a snowboard community. Some filmmakers, photographers, and mag editors do their best to portray this sincerely, and to this day we try to stay close to them.

Fun fact: Romain did not like the idea of putting this bail on the front of the mag and agreed to the concept of it under one condition - that he get have another Method cover if he came back to the spot and stomped the trick. Fair.
