The Grindhouse Mind Games Online Premiere + Extra Butter

Who would have thought a bunch of dudes from the north of England could pull off anything besides making a proper cuppa tea? Jamie Durham and his Grindhouse gang got to work big time this season and put together a movie that easily hangs in the same league with the big boys. Watch the full "Mind Games" movie for the first time online today with riding from Will Smith, Andy Nudds, Jamie Nicholls, Ollie Dutton, Tom Guilmard, Jonny Russell, Simon Foster, John Weatherley, Stu Edwards, Matt Higson, Tom Honey, Andy Laird, Jon Addison, Stuart Horsham & Ian Ashmore, then sit down and read our little Extra Butter interview with Jamie about the movie. Enjoy!

Who did you burn to get that smoke in the intro?

(Jamie)To get the smoke intro I just spent a night at Jonny Russell's house and turned the lights off… For some reason his house just produces smoke all the time?

Which rider is the backup filmer this year?
This year we actually brought in another filmer, Carter Hewlett, to help me out. But when he's not around it's usually Will Smith who is the keenest to get behind the camera as well. He filmed the fisheye shot of Jonny's ender where he makes some weird chimpanzee noises when Jonny lands...Jamie Durham on the gun. Photo by James North
How people many in the crew wear helmets?
I actually had to check who wore a helmet in the film for this question. Will, Tom G & Andy wear a helmet all the time whilst filming now, but for some reason it's not noticeable to us anymore. I think we are used to helmets because it is compulsory to wear one in the snow domes for insurance reasons, so I guess it just feels natural for them to be wearing a helmet.

Who has the poshest accent in the crew?
Dutton! Nearly everyone else is a Northerner so they don't sound posh at all.

Do most of the riders hit the spot again after a bail? Do you think they would if there wasn't a camera there?
Yeah, I think even if they fall there is hardly a time where it will make them stop riding at the spot, but I don't think they would be as keen to hit it if there wasn't a camera about… Maybe at some spots they would be happy to session a down bar or something if there was no camera.Jonny Russell floating backside into a wall in Finland. Photo by James NorthWhat other crews did you run into when you were out filming?
There was so many crews in Helsinki this year, a couple of local Finnish crews and I think we bumped into a Spanish crew as well, but I think all the big names came later on in the season, for some reason I always try and keep an eye on who's in town.Cue the epic hip hop music. Photo by James NorthWhere are those powder shots in Nudds' part?
They are in Avoriaz, we spent some weeks in Morzine/Avoriaz and got two shots for the film. Luckily this was the last trip so we had everything in the bag already, but for some reason every time I do a film trip to France it never goes according to plan!

What happened to John Weatherley's ass?
It was his first hit of the first mission of the season, just watch this.

What happened to Si Foster's face?
A pterodactyl swooped down and robbed his candy and cut his face at the same time, ha! Nah, he slipped out on a landing and dragged his face across a path covered in grit and gravel. Two old ladies were walking by at the time and said we were idiots and that we needed to call an ambulance, but when we actually found where the blood was coming from it wasn't as bad as it looked. It was a small, deep-ish cut on his nose but it just didn't stop bleeding, plus it was -25℃ that so it must have stung so much.

What is the story behind that toy in John Weatherly's part?
I don't think I even remember when it first started now, but the toy is Marshall Bravestarr, we have just come to accept it now, it's better left there when it comes to what Marshall Bravestarr gets up to or says about people…Big Willy Smith lacin' up a late night back nose on the close-out. Photo by James NorthDo think Jamie Nicholls should stop riding comps and just film parts? Besides the last one, are all the rails in his part in the UK?
No, I don't think he should stop riding comps but I would be stoked if he could film with us more. I didn't get to film him myself at all this season, so his footage has come from various filmers. He's been pretty busy with the lead up to the Olympics I guess, which hasn't left a huge amount of time to film for a part. I think once the Olympics are done with this winter we will get more time to film a part for the next movie, we've been talking about it for ages so it's got to happen!

What the hell is that song in Tom Guilmard's part?
"Look Out, There's a Monster Coming" by The Bonzo Dog Band, I have no idea where T got this song from but it worked so well for him!Mind Games. Photo by James NorthWhat exactly happened to Jon Addison for his part to end like that?
He tried to back tail the rail and ended up taco-ing it. He was in quite a bit of pain and later on in the day decided to get checked out at the hospital. Once there the hospital decided to open him up to check and good job they did because he tore his bowel, there were only a couple of millimeters of skin left and if that had torn as well it would have been a very different situation...Dutton gettin' that fitty-fitty on the skinny kink in Finland. Ollie Dutton is a big dude. Do you need to build extra beefy landings for him?
Yes, we have to ship in steel reinforcements from China to make his landings.

Where are those powder shots in Will Smith's part?

Will's powders shots are from the Dragon APX Lodge in Silverton, CO. Dragon has their own little area for testing products...Nudds swingin' a posh 270 around. Photo by James NorthHow many tries did Will Smith need to get that last rail?
I think it was about 10 goes, it was so gnarly because the rail is so thin then the landing has the tram line tracks with a curb to ollie over on the other side. He took some nasty slams trying to get that shot, including flying face-first from the flat to the concrete floor and smashing his elbow on the tram tracks. Watch this. Will you ever go back to Helsinki to film or is that place just totally played out?
Yeah, we will go back for sure, I have been living there this summer so I've found a few new spots. But I think we will also head further north into some of the other cities. I got to travel around Finland with work so I know there is plenty of other stuff to do outside of Helsinki.

What are the plans next year? Maybe some non-English people in the crew?
We are going to film again for sure, but yeah, I heard some rumors that there might be some cameo parts from some Johnny Foreigners. Stay tuned! The bad boy brigade. Photo by James North
