Nowamean: Bangarang Full Movie + Extra Butter Interview

Like a forest, every scene has trees of many sizes. There is always one tree that reaches highest towards the heavens, pushing the canopy to heights never seen before. With time its roots settle into the soil and this tallest tree gets comfortable at the top. Eventually, below that tall, old tree a new seedling will sprout in its shadow, and one day that seedling will grow to be the Great Oak of the snowboard forest. A new seedling that is growing fast is the Nowamean cre....

Hold up, who the fuck do I think I am, Jack Frost? I'll shut up, you just watch the full Bangarang movie from Nowamean, cuz it's the sweet, sweet ti-tays! Then, after you've had your recommended daily dose of rawesome, check out the little chat we had with Jerome Page, the fearless leader of these French-Canadian "Lost Boys".

Please tell us that the movie title "Bangarang" is a nod to the Lost Boys and not the Skrillex track!

(Je Page)Haha, yeah, it's definitely referring to the Lost Boys' war cry and not that noise they call music.

Who is the Rufio of the Nowamean crew? And Captain Hook would be?
Rufio is Gab Belanger. Everybody looks up to him and he's a great motivator. Captain Hook would be Sean Traer and myself, we always have to bring order and get the guys back on track. Plus, we have the Captain's job of telling the guys they have to do the trick again and again, if they want the trick in their part.
Man, I would pay 5 dollars for this movie, easy. You are lucky you get to see it for free! How was the crew changed since the last release, "PigEye"?
Each year everything progresses, the riding, the filming and the editing. The crew pretty much stayed the same but we were more motivated to release a good snowboard flick.

Did you approach Bangarang with any particular goals in mind?
We wanted to give a chance to all our guys to have the part they deserved. We wanted to make a movie that will last and kids will play before going riding.

Is that some version of Canadian tennis you guys are playing in the teaser?
Yeah, that was at a nice New Year's Eve party. Belanger and me play a lot of actual tennis and when we drink, we wanna play!Thomas Gagner coming in hot for heavy FS1 wall tip tap. What is up with Quebec, how can one place foster so much talent? Is there something in the water?
During the winter, it's all about snowboarding, nothing else really matters.

Quebec obviously has an insane array of snowboard spots. List three other killer things about the city. Are there any downsides?

1) There's always an Ashton restaurant nearby. The poutine is pretty damn good there.
2) The skate plaza is really sick.
3) A new snowboard-oriented restaurant called "Le bureau de poste" just opened. All meals… 5 bucks. Instant classic.

The only downside is people don't know how to drive in QC.

We saw a few tricks we had never seen before in Bangarang, where do you think street can go next? Shit is getting so heavy already…
Snowboarding doesn't have to get bigger, it just has to get more stylish and innovative. Bringing old and new tricks to original spots. There's still so much the cities have to offer, we just have to look and think outside the box.
Think outside the box? More like burn the box! LP Dorval turns himself into a human Twizzler. Photo Sean TraerWhen are we going to see the first double on or off a rail?
If Jaeger Bailey comes back to film with us this year, I'm pretty sure he could do it. If someone actually did it, it'd be pretty funny, probably not so stylish but fun to watch.

Do you guys want to leave Canada or should everyone come to Quebec to film?
Each year we find a lot of new spots so we film a lot around here. We went to the States last year and we will go back a couple of times this year, there's a lot new stuff to do there. If we have the budget to travel more, we surely will.

Dillon Ojo looks like a young Easy E and had such a crazy good part, tell us something funny about him.
Man, Dillon is the truth, such a good and cool kid. He plays a lot of Call of Duty, he has 2 very nice pit bulls and his mom is really hot!! Don't know what else to say besides watch his part and remember his name, he's here to stay!
Extra crispy backside lipslide by Cameron Hill. Good snowboarder name right there. Photo: Richard Hope
Jo Truchon, FS boardslide about slip into the dip. Man, who was the fatty who bent this rail? Photo: Richard HopeWhen you are old and fat are you going to watch this movie a a lot?‬
Maybe like once every couple of years. We will definitely never stop watching snowboard movies.

What made you use the sound bite from the classic movie "The Great Dictator" for the intro clip?
I had that on my computer for a while now, when I was editing Emile Veilleux's part and cutting clips before even putting the song, the speech just came up on my iTunes shuffle. It just felt like it fit well with Emile's mentality and he was more than stoked!
Nic Zik get perpendicular on the multi-kink. Photo: Richard HopeAre you Charlie Chaplan fans?
Yeah, but I haven't watched many of his movies, to be honest. I'm more of a Mr. Bean fan.

Would a silent snowboard film ever work?
Dude, silence is golden! But we need the sound of boards sliding on rails, to keep it raw. We thought a lot about doing a full snowboard part with no music, but skateboarding already did it and so I'm not sure we need to do it too.
There is a line in one of the tracks in the video: "I drink cheap beer. So what, fuck you." Coincidence or mission statement?
Man, Fidlar is a fucking good band. Yeah, when we're filming, we're always drinking cheap beers. Cold beer in a can is always good. But honestly, even if the singer said he drank cheap wine, we still would have used the song!!

Craft brews are:
a) A godsend
b) For hippies
c) Too filling to get drunk

I'm gonna go with (b).

Are you guys bringing back street plants?
Hell yeah!

Where did the crew venture to find some airtime?
Good old Whistler, and also France.

Gab Belanger intro clip: worst cock-shot ever?
Man, that was the worst moment of the year. Someone is watching over Gab, that bail could have been really serious. He gave himself 5 minutes of pain, got up, went back up there and did it again right away. Conquer your fears, they say, Belanger is a true boss. Lifetime respect. Axel Theoret finesses a front lip to wall scrape thru this tricky set up. Photo: Phil Bernard How old are the kids fighting around the 24:00 minute mark and where did you find them?
Say around 12-14. They were just chilling next to the spot and the fight kinda spilled over once it got going.

Was that a closed-fist smack homie got hit with?

It was a really awful fight. Go back to school, kids.

How many hospital runs in the making of Bangarang?
Nobody got seriously hurt this year, but I think Russell Beardsley went like, 3 times in 5 or 6 days. He was in Ottawa with our filmer Richard Hope. I heard Russ went to the H for broken ribs or maybe his collarbone. Next day I got a call from Hope saying Russ was in the hospital. I was like, "Yeah, I know, wait what? Again?!?". Then 2 days later, I got another call. Russ doesn't need to wait in line anymore, he's a VIP at the hospital now, haha. But no serious injury in his case, thankfully.
Either that was a messy piercing or this is another trip to the hospital for Russ. Either way, it's all smiles from these guys. You guys have a ton of footage, really, really good footage, in the video. How did you make it happen as an up-and-coming crew?
Thanks, I guess everybody put their heart and soul into the project this year. All the guys wanted their part to be good and everyone else's part to be just as good. All the guys are friends so everyone helped each other to get their shots, even if it meant driving 5 hours away for another rider to get his shots. Couldn't ask for a better crew.

Last words are yours, thanks, shout outs, etc!
