Ride & Seek - Snowbombing 2015

Ride and Seek went down last week in Mayrhofen as part of the Snowbombing festival. Snowbombing means that a mass of drunken Brits ravage Zillertal for an entire week. What's the difference to any other week in the valley, you ask? We honestly don't know.

Tom Kingsnorth wrote this report about Ride & Seek:

Wednesday saw the sun finally put its hat on in preparation for our now infamous banked slalom. With 50 competitors signing up to send it down the course of death and potentially risk both their life and limbs in the process. Riders of all abilities, from first timers to veterans, assembled with our invited pro riders for their chance to claim glory and win their weight in schnapps as they cross the finish line. With Artwork, Crazy P and Bonar, providing the soundtrack over a packed Grillhof Alm  Terrace in what proved to be one of the most exciting Snowbombing races in history. Eventually and some what unsurprisingly, local superstar Steve Gruber collected the gold with Alex Walch in second and Thijs Ottens in 3rd.

Thursday was a reminder that summer is just around the corner. But before we can put our boots away for the season we have to finish the winter in explosive style and what better way than our Snowbombing pro contest. With local and international pros making the trip to Mayrhofen to throw down for the Grillhof Alm terrace, all making the most of the near perfect slushy conditions. Uk Olympian Billy Morgan was smashing out back 10 doubles in his signature huck it style. Dutchman Joris Ouwerkerk eventually walked away with the funds to supply his evening as his back 10 doubles proved to be the best of the day.

What a scorcher Friday turned out to be, with one of the hottest days on the mountain and what better way to cool off than our annual wacky water slide? First of though was the immense cash for tricks contest in which Snowbombers got the chance to show off what they had learnt or didn't this week! With backflips being the main trick of the day, we saw pandas, superheroes and even a giant sandwich walk away with on the  spot cash prizes. The ever popular water slide brought played havoc to participants as they sank like a submarine into the icy abyss. Props to the young 7 year old snowboarder who attempted to cross several times, sometimes more successful than others! With Mr. Doris, Krafty Kuts and Penny LA Providing the tunes, alcohol flowed and sunburns were acquired way into the afternoon, see you all next year!
