The Kumi Yama event is gaining popularity every year. It truly has no equal internationally and its reputation is unprecedented. Just last year, athletes such as X-Games medalists, world champions, freestyle newcomers, icons and pioneers, “stars” and “old-timers”, as well as amateurs were together representing over 12 countries. It’s an event where different generations get together in a unique atmosphere to enjoy Les 2 Alpes’ snowpark.
The Kumi Yama is unique in every sense:
*Season: Summer
*Theme: Japanese inspired event
*Competition style: Kamikaze, where riders compete against each other in teams of three. Through qualifiers, amateurs also have the opportunity to compete with and against pro-riders in the finals.
*The usual slopestyle course is now spiced up with Japanese inspired features: torii, gong, temple...
*Riders: Since we are honoring Japan, this event welcomes the best Japanese pro-riders. However, beside empire-of-the sun natives, the event also welcomes athletes from all four corners of the world. Kazuhiro Kokubo, Hampus Mosseson, Tyler Chorlton, Nick Visconti, Brentwood Oftedal, Curtis Woodman, Artem Teymurov, Aljosa Krivec, Cecilia Larsen, Ana Rumiha, Sabrina Kuzar, Arthur Longo, Nicolas Droz, Gerome Mathieu have all already confirmed their attendance.
This year, Kumi Yama is focusing solely on slopestyle, which means no superpipe contest. The event is divided in two, one day of amateur contests and one day for pros. We also added something new this year...yes that’s right, something new as Sunday will be reserved for KIDS 9 to 14 years old!
They will be able to compete kamikaze-style on a slopestyle course made especially for them. These new and improved features will give slopestyle the opportunity to grow and reach new heights! With even more and improved features, a more urban street set-up and a bigger invitational riders event, the Kumi Yama will soar!
Also, some changes have been made to the “photo/graphic” contest. This year, it is exclusively a photography contest open to both pros and amateur.
