Spark R&D have been making bindings and winning hearts and awards for over a decade now. Their Arc and Surge bindings are considered the best splitboard bindings you can buy. They’ve pored over their Arc and Surge bindings from end to end and put each component under the microscope. Could they make it thinner?  Could they use a different material? Can they combine these parts? Should they make a custom version? The answer to all of it … was YES. And they did. All developed at Spark HQ.

Premium Materials

Carbon Reinforced Highbacks - With Rip ’N’ Flip Highbacks are already the industry standard. Added Carbon reinforced nylon to make them even more responsive, lightweight, and stiffer than the standard fibreglass versions. Injection moulding allows for more complex geometry and improved impact strength compared to other methods of carbon construction.

7075 Heel Loops

7075 aluminium is extremely strong and is often used for parts in the aircraft and aerospace industries. Using this premium alloy in the heel loops allows Spark to make their bindings thinner and lighter without sacrificing strength and reliability.

Pebax® Plastics

Using full Pebax® plastics in Pillow Line straps, ladders, and adjusters. Pebax® is a premium material most often found in high-end ski boots as it provides consistent stiffness and improved toughness in cold temperatures. It’s also 20% lighter than our standard material.

Custom Hardware

Weight savings add up by replacing stainless steel hardware with custom made 7075-T6 aluminium hardware. Aluminium parts are 65% lighter than our standard stainless parts.

From Stainless Steel to Aluminium:

  • Forward lean nuts

  • Forward lean screws

  • Ankle strap t-nuts

From Stainless to Aluminium now with a hex drive head:

  • Heel rest screws

  • Touring bracket screws

  • Ankle strap screws

Perhaps the most custom splitboard binding-specific screws you’ll ever see are the aluminum heel loop screws. The custom screw head shape is optimized with more than double the drive depth of a standard button head screw to avoid stripping. Spark have added an unthreaded shoulder to improve the connection with the heel loop. To top it off, we have a custom loctite patch added. If these screws come out, it’s because you take them out.
