X-Games comes to Europe for the first time.
Since July 2009, French and US technical teams have been working extensively on the installations at Tignes. The dimensions of the modules required for an event of this scale are quite simply colossal.
The biggest SuperPipe Europe has ever seen will be constructed for the occasion; measuring some 240 metres long, 19 metres wide and 7 metres high. To transform the pipe into an authentic SuperPipe, American builders Chris Gunnarson and Franck Wells (of Snow Park Technology) will be setting up in Tignes starting February 21st
.
And to ensure that the planet’s elite freestylers have an arena that’s worthy of their talents, the number of snow cannons on the lower part of the Double M piste is being increased from 15 to 22, whilst rock formations have been moved. Skiers and snowboarders will get the chance to take on an XXL slopestyle course of great proportions: 600m long, 190m rise, 8 snow or artificial modules, including one 12m-long rail.
